Discover a New Way to Line Dance

Two dancers. Equal partners. Mirrored movements.

Mirror Line Dance (MLD) brings a new dimension to traditional line dancing by introducing face-to-face partnered choreography based on symmetry, geometry, and coordinated movement.

Experience the joy of dancing together—without requiring a traditional leader or follower.

The concept

What Is Mirror Line Dance?

Mirror Line Dance (MLD) is a partnered line dance system in which two dancers perform coordinated movements while maintaining a mirrored or complementary relationship.

Unlike traditional line dancing, where dancers generally face the same direction, MLD allows partners to face each other, exchange positions, and rotate through different orientations while preserving their coordinated movement.

MLD emphasizes three principles:

01

Symmetry

Partners perform mirrored or complementary steps, creating visual balance and coordinated movement.

02

Geometry

Dance patterns use directional changes, controlled rotations, and spatial relationships to maintain partner alignment.

03

Equality

Both dancers participate as equal partners. Traditional leader-and-follower roles are not required.

MLD combines familiar line dance movements with elements inspired by Bachata, Salsa, Tango, and other dance styles.

40 Counts | 2 Walls

Bachata-inspired steps incorporating mirrored movement, controlled separation, and partner rotations.

Mirror & Salsa

48 Counts | 4 Walls

Salsa-inspired choreography featuring traveling passes, circular movements, and alternating partner roles.

Mirror & Tango

Explore the MLD Collection

The Mirror Line Dance choreography library contains original partnered dances developed using MLD principles.

Each choreography includes a written stepsheet describing the movements for both dancers. Where available, demonstration videos accompany the instructions.

Additional choreographies and instructional materials will be added as the collection develops.

The Principles Behind the Movement

Mirror Line Dance is more than a collection of individual dances. It is a systematic approach to partnered choreography.

The MLD method explores:

Face-to-Face Coordination

Partners maintain a coordinated spatial relationship throughout the dance.

Mirrored and Complementary Footwork

Movements may be symmetrical, opposite, or complementary depending on the choreography.

Controlled Rotation

Quarter-turns, half-turns, and full rotations allow dancers to change orientation while preserving the partnered structure.

Partner Exchange

Dancers may exchange positions or alternate movement roles without requiring permanent leader-and-follower assignments.

Dance Geometry

Spatial patterns provide a framework for understanding partner alignment, directional changes, and movement pathways.

Principles of Mirror Line Dance (2026)

A short introductory guide by Benjamin T. Huang covering the mirror principle, partner positioning and symmetry, counts and walls, reading an MLD step sheet, and creating and teaching MLD.

About the creator

Benjamin T. Huang

Mirror Line Dance was developed by Benjamin T. Huang, a physician and radiologist with an academic background in cybernetics and biocybernetics at UCLA.

His interest in mathematics, geometry, human movement, and coordinated systems inspired the development of a partnered approach to line dancing.

MLD combines familiar dance movements with structured spatial relationships, emphasizing cooperation, symmetry, and the enjoyment of dancing together.
